Staffed by a cadre of specialized lab technicians and biochemical scientists, the lab significantly augments our capabilities to validate the design of our optics measurement systems in combination with our customers’ assays through tests relevant to their applications. This expansion has enabled us to handle potentially contaminated samples, like human blood or instruments returned from the field. Beyond this, we can perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting for complete analyzers, which involve instrument installation, operation, sample preparation and running assays or controls. This holistic approach ensures we deliver the right solutions to our customers and cater comprehensively to their diverse needs.

They faced a significant issue with spectral crosstalk, which put their extensive program on the brink. If the customer could not resolve the major issue with spectral crosstalk, the entire development would be at risk, and significant investment into the program would be in great peril. They sought Volpi’s expertise, and our team rose to the challenge and developed high-sensitivity optics and related measurement systems to meet the customer’s stringent requirements. While running wet tests on a new fluorescence measurement system for a high-sensitivity multiplexed immunoassay, our experts could verify the femtomolar detection limit but measured unexpectedly high spectral crosstalk. A thorough root cause analysis revealed the client-provided dye was producing blueshifted derivatives, causing the interference resulting in spectral crosstalk. Volpi swiftly identified a chemically stable dye alternative, which markedly reduced spectral crosstalk while preserving detection sensitivity. With this critical challenge overcome, the client’s program could advance, making their ambitious market launch timelines attainable.
